Our monthly auctions are a great way to meet fellow breeders, buy some quality birds or even make some extra cash by selling yours. You can also find fertile eggs and second-hand accessories like incubators and feeders for much cheaper than buying new. While we have a couple of live pure-bred auctions every year most of our auctions are pencil auctions and this page will guide you through the process of a stress free and profitable auction experience.
The Time
Check our calendar for upcoming auction dates. These are the important times to keep in mind
- 8-9am: Members to place birds in pens
- 9-10am: Non-Members to place birds in pens
- 10:30am-12: Bidding
To bid on birds pay $2 at the front desk and you will be given a bidders number. To bid on a bird write in your bidder number and bid on the slip attached to it’s cage. After bidding stops at 12 the stewards will highlight the winning bids by marking the winning bid with a fluorescent pen. After this you can collect the slips for all the bids you have won and take them to the front desk to pay where we have cash and EFTPOS facilities. After paying you will be given a slip to present to a steward who will retrieve your birds from their cages and place them in your carrier. It is advisable to bring your own boxes/cages but we do have spare boxes available for $1 from the front office. As payments are collected, volunteers in the back office will collate bids and as soon as a sellers birds are all accounted for their name will be called to the front office to collect payment. Please do not remove birds from their cages yourself but have a steward do it for you regardless of whether it’s an unsold bird you own or one you have just paid for.
